Israel intentionally starving Palestinians in Gaza: UN official

LONDON: A UN official, Michael Fakhri, accused Israel of intentionally causing starvation in Gaza and committing war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian population. Fakhri, the special rapporteur on the right to food, stated that Israel has deliberately destroyed food supplies and restricted the flow of food into Gaza since the conflict began in October. He argued that intentionally depriving civilians of food constitutes a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Fakhri asserted that the situation in Gaza amounts to genocide, holding Israel accountable for the actions that impact the entire Palestinian population. He criticized countries that cut funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees based on unsubstantiated claims, calling it collective punishment. Fakhri emphasized that there is no exception to genocide and urged a path forward toward peace, not just an end to the war.
