Arabic Calligraphy Takes Centre Stage This Ramadan

A special edition of Project Art that honours Ramadan is running at Zabeel House by Jumeirah, The Greens, until May 4. The monthly interactive initiative designed to provide Dubai’s burgeoning art community with a free space to exhibit their work is showcasing traditional Arabic calligraphy from Omar Aborayan.


The Egyptian artist is known for using traditional calligraphy to explore the historic and cultural roots of Arabic culture. And the city’s eclectic hotel, described as the coolest neighbourhood hangout, is embracing the spirit of Ramadan with the exhibition that shines a light on his excellent personal collection. Aborayan has revealed the artworks in the collection are inspired by acclaimed Arab artists like Muthana Al Obaiby and Wissam Shawkat.


The eighth chapter of the series is in line with the theme of Ramadan and will feature a live calligraphy experience on 19 April at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the hotel with an upscale, casual environment. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist, observe his technique, ask questions, and learn a little more about his work and journey. Aborayan’s original art is also be available for purchase throughout his residency.
