🇵🇰 Pakistani Father Kills Daughter Over TikTok Use: A Case of “Honor Killing”

Two separate and heartbreaking cases in Pakistan have recently drawn widespread attention, both involving teenage girls who were murdered by their fathers over disputes related to their activity on TikTok.

📍 Case 1 – Quetta: 15-Year-Old Killed Over "Inappropriate Behavior"

  • A 15-year-old girl, born in the United States, was killed by her father, a Pakistani-American citizen, after arguments over her social media use — particularly TikTok, her clothing choices, and friendships.

  • Initially, the father claimed an unknown attacker shot his daughter. But during police interrogation, he confessed to committing the murder himself.

  • A relative (brother-in-law) was also arrested, accused of helping cover up the crime.

  • Police are treating the case as a suspected honor killing, which is punishable by life imprisonment under Pakistani law.

📍 Case 2 – Rawalpindi: Shot for Refusing to Delete TikTok

  • In another city, Rawalpindi, a 16-year-old girl named Mehak was shot and killed by her father after refusing to delete her TikTok account.

  • The family initially claimed she had committed suicide, but an autopsy confirmed gunshot wounds, leading police to investigate her father.

  • He was arrested, and the firearm used in the killing was seized.

  • Authorities have registered the case under laws related to premeditated murder, which could lead to the death penalty or life in prison.

🩸 The Broader Context: Honor Killings in Pakistan

  • Each year, hundreds of women and girls are killed in Pakistan by family members for reasons linked to "honor" — usually behavior that challenges traditional or conservative norms.

  • Common triggers include:

    • Relationships or dating,

    • Dressing in a way deemed inappropriate,

    • Posting photos
