Deezer Starts Flagging AI-Generated Music
Why is Deezer doing this?
-
Deezer receives around 20,000 AI-generated tracks daily, which is about 18% of all uploads on the platform.
-
Although these tracks only account for 0.5% of total streams, up to 70% of the streams for AI tracks are fraudulent.
-
Fraudsters use bots to artificially inflate play counts and collect royalties unfairly.
What actions is Deezer taking?
-
Advanced detection tools: Deezer has implemented technology to identify AI-generated music from tools like Suno and Udio, and plans to expand detection to other AI music generators.
-
Labeling AI music: Tracks identified as fully AI-generated will be clearly labeled for transparency.
-
Excluding from recommendations: AI-generated tracks will be removed from algorithmic and editorial recommendations to prevent artificial influence on music trends.
-
Rejecting fraudulent royalties: Deezer will refuse royalty payments for AI-generated tracks involved in fraudulent streaming schemes.
Deezer’s goal
-
To build a transparent and scalable infrastructure for managing and monetizing AI-generated music rather than reacting only after violations occur.
-
To protect artists’ rights and maintain the platform’s integrity.
